Terrace on the fifth wall

Flowing naturally from the kitchen, this rooftop terrace extends the living space towards the sky. A blurred threshold between indoors and outdoors, where uses intersect and materials interact. Burnt larch, treated using the Japanese Shou Sugi Ban technique, captures the light, magnifies the grain and reveals the depth of the wood while providing lasting protection from the elements and UV rays.

The existing masonry has been carefully reinterpreted: meticulous jointing, reused pink granite coping, cut to size. A green wall punctuates the ensemble, combining burnt wood with saffron yellow and ochre concrete reinforcement bars. Jasmine clings to it, while sea buckthorn infuses it with wild, sunny vitality.

A suspended space, both mineral and living.
